CHAPS Sets Up “Rapid” Referrals for Prostate MRI Scans

23 August 2020

As part of its PCa Screening Programmes, CHAPS has set up a “RAPID” referral pathway for men with an abnormal “Red” PSA result to the world-leading MRIp scanning unit at Imperial College, London.  The RAPID pathway is an NHS facility accessed via your GP’s “electronic referral system” (eRS).  An MRI scan is the essential test after detection of an abnormal PSA and can accurately discriminate between benign enlargement of the prostate, “clinically insignificant” PCa and “clinically significant” PCa.  Only the last requires confirmatory prostatic biopsies as the new scans are extremely accurate in detection of the aggressive, dangerous PCas that require curative treatment.
